This section includes resources for researchers interested in using the All of Us Researcher Workbench. Here, researchers can explore resources to support their work, review frequently asked questions, and stay informed about funding opportunities offered by NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section provides answers to common questions received by the Researcher Engagement and Outreach team related to researcher training and support. Topics include accessing training materials and resources, understanding compute credits and billing, exploring available funding opportunities, and more.

For additional FAQs about the Researcher Workbench, please visit the All of Us Research Hub.

Where can I find training materials to help me use the Researcher Workbench?

The User Support Hub is your go-to resource for learning how to navigate and use the tools within the Researcher Workbench. It offers a wide range of support materials, including step-by-step guides, video tutorials, FAQs, and documentation to help you get started and troubleshoot common issues. You can also reach out to the help desk for personalized assistance with specific questions or challenges.

Where can I find information on credits and billing in the Researcher Workbench?

This User Support Hub article provides an overview of the costs researchers may incur when using the Researcher Workbench, along with guidance on estimating the costs of different applications. This also explains how to make the most of the $300 in initial compute credits provided by the program. Additionally, you can explore resources on supplemental funding opportunities that may support your research, such as the NIH STRIDES Initiative.

Where can I find information about data use policies and research requirements?

The Policy section of the User Support Hub provides researchers with easy access to key policies that govern data use within the All of Us Research Program. In addition, this webpage includes summarized excerpts from core data-use policies to help researchers understand their responsibilities when working with program data. It also provides direct links to full policy documents (PDFs) for those who need more detailed guidance or wish to review the complete text. Whether you’re looking for information on data privacy, acceptable use, or research conduct requirements, this section is a helpful starting point for ensuring compliance and responsible data stewardship.

What is the  All of Us  Data Dictionary, and how can it support my research?

The All of Us Data Dictionary is a comprehensive reference tool that documents the types of data available in the Researcher Workbench and the methods used to protect participant privacy. It includes detailed descriptions for each data field, indicating whether it is a standard OMOP field or a custom field specific to the All of Us Research Program.

The Data Dictionary also specifies the source of each data element, whether it comes from electronic health records or participant-provided information such as survey responses. It outlines data cleaning practices aimed at improving data quality and includes many custom concept IDs developed by the program for easier navigation and integration. Additionally, versioning information is provided so researchers can track changes—such as added, modified, or removed fields—between curated dataset releases.
